Deaf Development Programme

Silent Classroom

While many of the deaf students in our Basic Education Project are very vocal, walking up to the classroom in Kampong Cham, often the only indication that class is in session is that there is no lock on the door.  Kampong Cham is home to 31 basic education students, divided between the year one and year two classes.  For most, this is the first time they have had the opportunity to receive education.  Prior to meeting DDP, many were working to help their family farm rice – or in a variety of other family businesses.   Last week, the afternoon classes were dedicated to studying reproductive health (second year students) and how to respond in an emergency (first year students).
