Deaf Development Programme

Youth Encounter

Whether hearing or deaf, youth have many of the same challenges here in Cambodia.  This past weekend eighteen youth from The Deaf Development Programme had the opportunity to join with around 100 youth from other Maryknoll sponsored NGOs to build friendships and serve some of the poor here in Cambodia at a Youth Encounter.  The Encounter took place in Sihanoukville and, for one of DDP’s youth, it was the first time she had seen the sea.  On Saturday, the students helped to survey the local families in the village on living conditions – the surveys will be used for future development projects in the community.   This opportunity not only gave DDP’s Deaf youth the opportunity to connect with hearing youth, it provided the hearing youth with an opportunity to build friendships with the Deaf students and better understand Deaf culture here in Cambodia.  Check out the pictures from their weekend below.
